What I Think Of Writer's Craft

I am glad I took Writer's Craft, as it quickly became my favourite class. I'm not trying to flatter you, Mrs Reidel, I truly enjoyed this class.

At the beginning, I was self-conscious about my writing. Since the high school English curriculum in Quebec focuses mostly on essays and responses, creative writing was not something I practiced often. If I did, it would be in French and I did not enjoy that very much.

Quickly, I gained confidence in this class. However, I was taken aback when you asked to read one of my pieces to the class.

I'm thankful I learned how to use Google Docs in this class because I wasn't aware of it.

I used to think I wanted to study journalism, but I hated the journalism unit. However, I really liked interviewing Constable Mackie.

Finally, I discovered my love for poetry through this class.

You should continue encouraging people to put themselves out there and suggest writing competitions. If you provide the opportunity, students are more likely to be willing. I wouldn't have looked for writing contests on my own.

I think you should continue reading people's pieces but perhaps using a different approach. Maybe you could read them anonymously, or ask them before if they are okay with you reading them. When you ask in front of the whole class, and for the author to read them, I think people get nervous (I do). For the latest writing prompt, I would've been okay with my story being read, but I didn't want to read it myself because it was a really weird story.

Overall, I am impressed with this class and enjoyed it very much.
